Dyslexia Correction of Virginia

Davis Orientation Counseling® teaches people to identify confusions and inaccurate perceptions of letters, words, numerals, and punctuation marks, and then to make corrections.  This simple technique is a mental way to focus and receive information correctly.  With correct perception the student is able to learn.

Davis Symbol Mastery® is a method using clay to create meaning for symbols (words, letters, numerals, punctuation marks).  A Trigger Word list, composed of  217 of the most frequently used words, is to be completed during the months after the program.  The Trigger Words do not have pictures and cause blanks for picture thinkers when encountering these words.  Being able to think with these words is possible when three-dimensional, clay models are made.  When concepts are clearly understood through mental pictures, learning becomes permanent. 

Programs are 25-30 hours and are facilitated over 5 consecutive days by a trained and licensed Davis Dyslexia Correction® Facilitator. Those eligible are eight years of age or older, with a two-week program done in half days available for those ages 5-7.  Perceptual Ability Assessments are conducted before a program to determine perceptual talents, and identify strengths and weaknesses associated with learning.  Programs are one-on-one and individualized to meet goals in one or more subject areas such as reading, comprehension, math, spelling, writing, handwriting, or ADD/ADHD.  Support training is conducted on the last afternoon for one or more family members or educators who will support the follow-up with the individual after the program.  Three two hour follow-ups and unlimited phone calls are included.
